Comic Con is approaching quickly (July 19-23) — here are some San Diego spots offering specialty food and drinks, along with some great places to check out near all the action:

It’s an epic battle of Heroes vs Villains, Anime-style, at the Gaslamp’s barleymash for Comic Con this year! Bartenders will be dressed up as anime villains, while servers will dress up as anime heroes, and all enjoy Chef Rose’s Barley Bento Box. Choices include Crispy Chicken Katsu with Steamed Rice, Cucumber Salad, and Bulgogi Green Beans for $22, or Spicy Tuna with Steamed Rice, Cucumber Salad, and Bulgogi Green Beans for $24.

Spill the Beans’ two locations, in the Gaslamp and Seaport Village, will be featuring Super Mario-themed cream cheeses to celebrate Comic Con! Try the Mario Party Pizza Cream Cheese or Donkey Kong’s Banana Cream Cheese – both are available, for $1.50, to add to any of Spill the Beans’ bagel flavors, like Roasted Garlic & Herb, Bacon & White Cheddar, French Toast, classic Everything, and more. Pair with any caffeinated drink to keep you energized and awake, so you won’t miss any of the action.

Gaslamp’s The Smoking Gun is going old-school retro arcade for Comic Con this year! Along with specialty food for the long weekend – Waka Waka Waka WingsSonic Burger, and Player One Frito Pie to name a few, the restaurant is also featuring a themed cocktail all throughout July. Space Invaders is made with Volcan Blanco Tequila, Lillet, ginger, honey, and angostura bitters — available for $9.99. The Smoking Gun has a large arcade in the back of the restaurant, so don’t miss out on fun games like air hockey, skeet ball, basketball, driving games, Galaga, Pac-Man, and more!

Head on over to Coco Maya, located blocks from downtown, this Caribbean rooftop bar features an array of brunch delectables and refreshing cocktails.
