Don't Miss Out on National Goat Cheese Month!

By August 23, 2017 No Comments

August is National Goat Cheese Month and with only about a week left to celebrate, it’s time to get down to business in finding some local San Diego spots to enjoy the tasty cheese. Whether sprinkled over scrumptious salads or baked into a piping hot pizza, prepare to expand your cheese repertoire with the flavors of chèvre! To top off an afternoon of shopping at The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch, stop in to Dolce for dinner and a nice glass of wine. The Beet and Citrus salad is bursting with flavor from the goat cheese, citrus segments, frisee, mixed greens, banyul’s vinaigrette and candied walnuts. This satisfying salad would pair well with a glass of the D.R. Loosen Riesling or Soter Pinot Noir. Head over to Westroot, Carmel Valley’s neighborhood friendly tavern, to enjoy their captivating lineup of music or to catch an upcoming NFL game this season. Offering shared and comfort plates, buns, local greens and a menu for the little rascals, you will be able to find something for everyone with their fresh and inspired Southern California style food. For a light and healthy option, order Westroot’s Green Goddess Salad consisting of avocado, asparagus, cucumber, snap peas, chervil, goat cheese and pear all piled atop mixed greens and drizzled with green goddess dressing.  Visit the Gaslamp Quarter’s barleymash, a high-energy restaurant and bar that serves Duck Empanadas during their lunch and dinner hours. Stuffed with duck confit, sweet corn, goat cheese, arugula and lime crema, and served with a roasted poblano beer-cheese sauce, this shared plate will be gone before you can order a beer. Fig Tree Cafe, with locations in Pacific Beach, Hillcrest and Liberty Station, has a menu item that will appeal to those gluten-free diners who want to get their goat cheese fix. The Gluten Free Portobello Sandwich can be found on the lunch menu at each eatery and is built using a bread crumb crusted Portobello mushroom, wild arugula, hummus, jack and goat cheese and balsamic glaze, all sandwiched between gluten free multigrain bread. You can also order a side of the Mixed Veggies for a meal that avoids gluten at all costs. Located on Adams Avenue in historic Kensington, The Haven is a community-minded pizzeria utilizing local ingredients whenever possible. Here you can create your own pizza or order an appetizer, salad or pasta dish along with wine, beer and other various beverages. The menu also lists pre-created pizzas, such as The Righteous Pig. Goat cheese, pesto, mozzarella, prosciutto, caramelized onions, arugula and balsamic drizzle combine atop pizza crust, for which a wheat or gluten-free crust can be substituted. Stop by The Haven and experience goat cheese on a pizza today! Visit Farmer’s Bottega, a farm-to-table eatery located in Mission Hills, and you’ll notice the rustic ambiance like that of a real farmhouse as soon as you step through the doors. You will also notice their menu has quite a few dishes with goat cheese! For a healthy way to kick start your morning, try the Stay Fit Omelet on the breakfast and lunch menu. Egg whites, mushrooms, herb goat cheese, fresh spinach and roasted garlic served with house potatoes or organic black beans, and your choice of bread will give you the strength to power through the day ahead.
