Cesarina, the “new star of pasta” in San Diego, has opened up their winter patio for all to enjoy. From date night cuddles to cocktail hour hot water bottles on your lap, you’re going to want to check out your new favorite winter dinner spot.

Let’s be honest, as Californians, we thrive on enjoying the outdoors year-round. Nothing like a selfie on the beach in January while our friends back East are freezing their tooshies off to spread that smug California sunshine. But one secret our East Coast friends don’t know is that it gets a little chilly at night. Ok fine, we admit it, we need a (gasp) sweater in the evenings.

The good news is, Cesarina is serving up, not just stellar homemade pasta, but also the loveliest winter patio atmosphere that our California imaginations could have conjured up.

We’re talking wool blankets on every chair, hot water bottles on your lap, faux fur covered benches, and a custom chimenea for both warmth and atmosphere! Nothing like warming your toes in wooden rocking chair in front of a lovely fireplace while relaxing outdoors with a full-bodied glass of wine. And accompanied with all that is some stellar hand-made pasta.

Try the Salsiccia Zalferano with housemade fettucini, salciccia, saffron, zucchini and squash blossoms. Squash blossoms are so in right now, and with California’s year-round agricultural bloom, hopefully they’ll always be in.

Or the Paccheria ai Frutti di Mare, a rich medley of prawns, clams and freshly shaved Bottarga. If this won’t warm your winter bellies, I don’t know what will!

Our favorite was the Malfade Agnello with Porcini mushrooms. Homemade Malfade (like fettucine, but with ridges!), handmade lamb ragout, porcini, thyme and pecorino romano cheese.

Our favorite part of the dining experience at Cesarina is that, when you head back toward the kitchen, you can see the pasta making process yourself.  From their hands to your belly within minutes!

I don’t know about you, but we will be spending some cozy nights on the Cesarina patio! See you there!

Cesarina is located at 4161 Voltaire St, San Diego, CA 92107 and open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner, with the addition of brunch on weekends.
