Bloody Marys for National Hangover Day

By December 16, 2019 No Comments

Whether you enjoy them simple or with an entire meal on top, Bloody Marys make for a great hangover cure. So if you end up celebrating too heartily on New Year’s Eve, we’re here to help you cure your first hangover of 2020 by rounding up some of the most delicious Bloody Mary spots in San Diego.

Fort Oak

Take a classic for a spin at Mission Hills gem, Fort Oak. Paying homage to their location in a historic Ford building, the Fort Oak team designed their cocktail menu around classic car models. Their Bloody Mary, the Barracuda, features vodka, roasted heirloom tomatoes, b&b pickle brine, black pepper, horseradish, and TRG hot sauce. Pair your Bloody with their irresistible brunch offerings like their Chilaquiles Verde or Brioche Breakfast Sandwich. They are hosting a Dog-Friendly New Year’s Day Brunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Trust

On the simpler side, spice things up with Trust Resturant’s signature Bloody Mary. Made with jalapeno-infused vodka and their house Bloody mix, this brunch classic pairs perfectly with their famous Ultimate Sticky Bun, which is chef’s choice each weekend and is limited to brunch early birds. Join in on their Cutwater boozy brunch celebration on New Year’s Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

20|Twenty

Gone are the days when the spectrum of Bloody Marys was measured from “spicy” to “mild” — the modern Bloody can be neatly separated into two categories: traditional and over-the-top, and this one falls into the latter. Enjoy 20|Twenty’s Ultimate Bloody Mary made with Titos vodka, house-made mix, Xicaru Mezcal and topped with candied bacon, shrimp, celery and pickled veggies.

The Westgate Hotel

Go all out and celebrate this national holiday in style at The Westgate Hotel’s New Year’s Day brunch in Le Fontainebleau room, which makes for the perfect excuse to drink in the A.M. Guests can enjoy The Westgate’s extensive buffet offerings, including bottomless Bloody Marys, champagne and margaritas for $89. Like your Bloody a bit briny? Tip back one of their Bloody Mary oyster shooters while taking in the crystal chandeliers and live jazz.

Corner Drafthouse

Check out the full Bloody Mary menu at Corner Drafthouse. Bloody lovers can choose from different house-made mixes as well as their choice of liquor. Ask your server about their secret off-the-menu Loaded Bloody Mary, garnished with basically a full meal. What does “full meal” mean, exactly? Try a chicken wing, a slider, a slim jim, a strip of thick-cut bacon, a jumbo shrimp, a pickle, celery stick, lemon and lime wedges, kalamata olives, and an assortment of cheese squares. And, there’s actually a real drink under there, we promise. You didn’t hear it from us.

Bier Garden

Whether you prefer to go basic or go big, local surf town hangout, The Bier Garden of Encinitas, has a style of bloody mary that can suit everyone. Boasting an extensive Bloody Mary menu, each concoction comes paired with your choice of a beer shot on the side. Come back for their weekend brunch to enjoy $2 off Bloody Marys until noon.

JRDN

Sunshine, people watching, and ocean views – what more do you need? Breathe in the salty air as you sip on your hangover cure at JRDN in Pacific Beach. Guests can enjoy the Tower23 Brunch Mary with house-infused cilantro and jalapeno vodka – which gives it a refreshingly spicy twist – house mix, bacon salt rim and a meal-on-a-stick. JRDN offers brunch every weekend from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Monello

Monello in Little Italy offers a host of Italian brunch beverages, including their Piccante Bloody Mary. An Italian spin on the American classic, this Bloody is made with vodka and tomato juice and topped with spicy calabrese salame, pecorino and an olive skewer. Brunch and Bloodys are offered weekends from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Zinqué

Is it true that French bartender Fernand Petiot invented the Bloody Mary in 1921? We don’t know the answer for sure, but we do know that San Diego’s newest French bistro, Zinqué, has one of the tastiest bloodies in town. Raise a toast to National Bloody Mary Day and say “Bonjour!” to 2020 as you enjoy a Prosciutto and Gruyere Croissant off their breakfast menu.
