Where to Get the Best Pizza in San Diego on National Pizza Day

By February 2, 2019 No Comments

It’s a day that honors one of the most popular and iconic foods in the world: National Pizza Day. Whether you prefer deep dish or thin crust, we can all come together on February 9 to celebrate arguably the best food holiday of the year. (We take our food holidays very seriously around here.) We’ve rounded up a couple of the best spots in San Diego to celebrate.

Surf Rider Pizza Co

If you are looking for a thin and crispy East Coast style slice of pizza made with homemade, hand tossed dough, whole milk mozzarella and baked in fire heated brick ovens, look no further! Surf Rider Pizza Co. has you covered for a very important holiday (in their opinion), offering $2.50 slices on National Pizza Day on Saturday, Feb. 9! Surf Rider Pizza Co. was founded by a true East Coast native with the goal of spreading pizza goodness to the West Coast. Now with four locations in Ocean Beach, Crown Point, Mission Beach, and La Mesa – it will be easy to grab a slice on National Pizza Day! The hot spot is also offering deals on pies like $15 for a cheese pizza and $20 for the signature Surf Rider Pizza.

Hundred Proof

Celebrate your love for pizza at Hundred Proof. Grab your friends and family, head on down to University Heights, kick back and enjoy a slice. Their menu offers three varieties of pies including a Wild Mushroom Pizza ($15) made with ricotta, mozzarella, and pecorino cheese as well as a Hen Egg Pizza ($14) which comes topped with Calabrian chiles, burrata, lardons, and basil. Any way you slice it, it’s a match made in heaven. If you’re looking to pair your pizza with a cold beer or a crafty cocktail, you’re in the right place.

The Haven

A Kensington neighborhood favorite, The Haven, serves delicious Neapolitan-style pizzas. Here you can create your own pie, with toppings like goat cheese, Brussels sprouts, artichoke and candied bacon, just to name a few. The Haven even has vegan cheese! You can also opt for a pizza from the Haven’s creation portion of the menu, like The “New” New York. Spicy pizza sauce, seasonal onion mix, bell peppers, mushrooms, mozzarella and your choice of regular or vegetarian sausage.

Monello

Head on down to Monello in Little Italy to enjoy a taste of some of the most authentic pizzas around. Offering eleven different varieties, you’re sure to find one that’ll honor this holiday the right way. A few favorites include the classic Monello ($21) topped with spinach, roasted bell peppers, sausage, raspa dura and if you’re feeling brave, try the Piccante ($19), made with mozzarella, arrabbiata sauce, and spicy salame, which is well-deserving of the name “Piccante.” So do your part and enjoy a slice (or five) on this day. But let’s be honest, there’s always a good reason to eat pizza on any day.

Sammy’s

Don’t let National Pizza Day pass you by without a trip to one of Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza & Grill’s locations. Featuring a plethora of options to suit every palate, this pizza hotspot offers gluten-free, whole wheat and cauliflower crusts, in addition to their regular dough to ensure that everyone leaves satisfied. Gorge on their LaDou’s Barbecue Chicken pizza, prepared with smoked gouda, barbecue sauce, red onion and cilantro, and see why this 30-year-old pizza go-to is a longstanding staple.

Farmer’s Table

Get your pizza fill with a trip to one of San Diego’s favorite farm-to-fork spots, Farmer’s Table. With locations in La Mesa, Bay Park and now Little Italy, this local gem fires up their pizza in a woodfire oven they imported straight from Italy. Choose whether you’d like your cheesy creation to be a flatbread or a pizza, and order one of their most popular pies, such as the Speck, a unique creation topped with pear, blue cheese, green onions and fresh mozzarella cheese.

Woodstock’s Pizza

Any way you slice it, Woodstock’s Pizza is dedicated to dishing up amazing pies with high quality ingredients and a signature folded over crust every day of the year. This National Pizza Day Woodstock’s Pacific Beach and near SDSU will be promising $3 off a large or extra-large pizza from February 7th-10th with online code “PIZZA DAY” in honor of the occasion! Don’t miss your opportunity to chow down on one-of-a-kind combos including the All ‘Choked Up, loaded with creamy garlic sauce, spinach, 100% whole milk mozzarella, roasted garlic, artichoke hearts, shaved parmesan and double crispy bacon.

barleymash

barleymash pizzas are made from scratch daily using local beer and vegetables from nearby farms. On National Pizza Day, sink y iconic our teeth into The Popperflatbread, with applewood-smoked bacon, fresh jalapeños, cream cheese, crispy tobacco onions, ranch and habanero jelly.
