Where to Brunch on New Year’s Day

By December 28, 2017 No Comments

Goodbye 2017…Hello 2018! Following a long and celebratory evening of toasting to the year ahead, brunch is a mandatory activity for New Year’s Day. Get the year started in style with tasty eats and delicious drinks at these San Diego hotspots.

Head in to South Park’s Del Sur Mexican Cantina, on January 1st between 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., to experience an authentic Mexican brunch menu! Chow down on the Breakfast Carnitas Hash, a slow cooked golden-brown pork dish blended with salsa fresca, topped with a fried egg, pickled onions, crema, avo-serrano sauce and served with beans, potatoes and corn tortillas. Del Sur also offers a mouthwatering Breakfast Quesadilla, consisting of eggs, tomato, cilantro and salsa verde. Order any of their brunch cocktails, like the Bloody Maria or Vampiros Mexicanos, or take advantage of their champagne and your-choice-of-juice special for only $15. What a way to kick off the new year!

The Duck Dive, Pacific Beach’s premier neighborhood lounge and eatery, recently introduced new brunch menu items and you’re going to want to try them all! For a dish on the healthy-side, go with the Avocado Toast, sourdough topped with smashes avocado, pico de gallo, queso fresco, micro cilantro and a side of seasonal berries. If you feel more like indulging during your visit, you’ve got to taste the Candied Walnut French Toast. Delight your taste buds with cinnamon egg bread smothered in candied walnuts, whipped cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and house made caramel sauce. If you celebrated NYE at Duck Dive the night before, don’t forget to bring in your “Hair of the Dog” voucher for a complimentary Bloody Mary. All others can enjoy Bottomless Mimosas with a full juice bar from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Refuel from a long night out at Park 101, located just outside Carlsbad Village. You’ll thank yourself for ordering the Park Breakfast Burrito, a massive tortilla filled with egg, cheese, seasoned fries, smoked cheddar and jalapeno sausage, that comes served with your choice of side. From the Deli & Dough counter, you can also get refreshing acai bowls and goodies, like doughnuts and scones. This is one New Year’s Day brunch venue you can bring the whole family to, as Park 101 offers a variety of menu items sure to please everyone in your group. Take in the sunshine and fresh air from the multi-level complex, which will leave you feeling rejuvenated for the year ahead.

Mosey into the laidback and relaxed Miss B’s Coconut Club, in Mission Beach, for one of the best brunches in the area. With a variety of breakfast items from yogurt parfaits to scrambles, you’ll be pleased with anything you order from the brunch menu. The Jerk Chicken & Waffles is an island-inspired take on the oh-so-popular chicken and waffles dish that has swept the country. Take a bite into the coconut waffle, topped with jerk chicken leg and thigh and covered in spiced mango syrup. Yum! Miss B’s Coconut Club serves as the perfect spot to sip a breakfast cocktail while enjoying your meal. If you snag a spot outside on the patio, feel the cool ocean breeze as you enjoy any of the brunch drinks, like the Crazy Joe Davola. Rum, cold brew coffee, banana cordial, piña and coco cream combine to make a delicious Caribbean-inspired breakfast cocktail!

Serving breakfast daily until 1:00 p.m., head to Pacific Beach Shore Club, where Grand meets the sand. Dine on the open-air patio or enjoy brunch indoors – either option gives you unobstructed views of the ocean. Choose between an assortment of omelets, basics like burritos and pancakes, or select your meal from the Shore Club Favorites menu. Highly recommended is the Mass Confusion plate, three biscuits covered in scrambled eggs, mixed cheese, tater tots, house breakfast gravy, bacon and sausage.

Many will need to recover and reset after a night of New Year’s indulgences and Hundred Proof has your back. In collaboration with Cutwater Spirits, Hundred Proof is serving up a Recovery Day Brunch that will cure the aches and pains you never knew you had! Join Hundred Proof and Cutwater Spirits on Monday, January 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for hand-crafted Cutwater cocktails, a 12 p.m.toast, and the hottest new Hundred Proof dishes you’ll simply devour. We’ll only tease you with Chef Brad Wise’s Mama’s Overnight Baked French Toast and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with Whipped Butter, Pomegranate and Chantilly… but the options only grow more delectable!

Cheers to brunching it up in 2018!
