The Inaugural Burgers & Brews Invitational

By November 6, 2016 No Comments

Saturday, October 22nd San Diego got to experience the Inaugural Burgers & Brews Invitational, hosted by Vavi at Legacy Plaza in Liberty Station. The event showcased the best award-wining craft breweries alongside the top burger establishments in San Diego with unlimited samples, award-winning live music and a gourmet french fry bar by chef Alex Carballo! Proceeds of the event benefited BraveCort Foundation, benefiting pediatric child cancer research and treatment.

The burgers portion of the festival was a showdown between Hodads, Slaters 50/50, Carnitas Snack Shack, and Burger Lounge. The crowd favorite of the fest was Slaters 50/50 with a juicy B’B’B’ Bacon Burger. Born out of Slaters obsession with bacon, this beast of a burger has their signature 50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon 50/50 patty topped with bacon American cheese, two strips of bacon, bacon island dressing, and a fried egg on a soft brioche bun.

To accompany the burgers was a gourmet french fry station and custom dipping sauces from award-winning chef Alex Carballo.

The beer samples featured top craft breweries including Alesmith, Ballast Point, Stone Brewing, Sierra Nevada, Pure Project, Coronado Brewing, The Lost Abbey, Port Brewing, Belching Beaver, Mike Hess Brewing, Monkey Paw, South Park Brewing, White Labs, and Resident Brewing.

The fun-filled day featured old American music courtesy of award-winning local San Diego band G Burns Jug Band! They recently won the San Diego Music Award for Best Local Recording. Additional entertainment included the 3rd annual BraveCort “Masskrugstemmen,” a traditional Bavarian beer stein holding contest in which competitors held a 1-liter stein of beer in one hand for as long as they could.
