It’s National Mezcal Day on Sunday, Oct. 21, and these mixed drinks are calling your name.

Death By Tequila, one of the newest restaurants and bars to open in North County San Diego, specializes in agave spirits, craft cocktails and premium ingredients that are both organic and locally sourced. One of the most popular cocktails, Frothing in Puerto, combines Gracias a Dios mezcal with lemon, vanilla, pineapple and egg whites, putting a Baja spin on a classic whiskey sour. The cocktail receives a fun, decorative touch with a stencil of Death By Tequila’s iconic logo, made with a spray of bitters, imprinting a sombrero-wearing skull on the top foam.

Located in the heart of San Diego’s bustling Gaslamp Quarter, El Chingon, stands apart from the county’s numerous Mexican restaurants by serving traditional Mexican food with elevated ingredients, paired with an expansive beverage menu with a selection of hand-picked mezcal offerings and specializes in agave-based cocktails. One of the stand out mezcal cocktails is Zapata, made with El Silencio mezcal, fresh lime, house-made almond orgeat and R&D sarsaparilla bitters. Salud!

Prohibition, San Diego’s underground speakeasy, features a variety of seasonally-introduced hand-crafted cocktails that are a playful ode to San Diego’s regions, cities and neighborhoods. One of the current selections is Banana Hammock, made with El Silencio mezcal, banana, lime, pineapple, coconut liqueur, Amontillado sherry, vanilla liqueur and R&D smoke bitters.
