Review: Kanaha Blonde Ale

Kona Brewing Company’s newest Kanaha Blonde Ale is now available on the mainland, so we tried it out to see how the Hawaii brew stacked up against San Diego craft beer. Kanaha Blonde Ale has 99 calories and features subtle hints of real mango.

Kanaha (pronounced ka-NA-ha) Blonde Ale is a bright, sessionable beer named after the Kanaha Beach winds on the North side of Maui. Kanaha Blonde Ale tasting notes include pale and caramel malts; alchemy, mosaic and amarillo hops with added mango fruit. The mango is much more subtle than I expected, offering a slight tropical flair to the beer without overwhelming it.

Low bitterness (18 IBU) and alcohol content (4.2%) makes this an easy drinking, session beer for when you need a break from San Diego’s hoppy IPAs.
