When Blue Bridge Hospitality has their name behind a new restaurant concept, you know it’s going to be good. el Roy’s Tequila Bar + Kitchen opened on August 15, 2018, backed by the same people who brought you Liberty Public Market, Stake Chophouse & Bar, Leroy’s Kitchen + Lounge, and more. The Coronado Ferry Landing restaurant pairs it’s unparalleled views of the downtown skyline with contemporary Mexican flavors to create a winning combination.
el Roy’s can be found nestled amid the panoramic bayfront of Coronado Ferry Landing. Giant floor-to-ceiling windows give diners jaw-dropping views of the city skyline, Coronado beach and the bay. The interior showcases a fresh, bright color palette while the outer sundeck provides a bright, airy location to take in the views.
The 5,700 square-foot, indoor-outdoor restaurant is helmed by Executive Chef Chris Gallo, who boasts an impressive resume of San Diego favorites such as Mister A’s and A.R. Valentien.
“We’re not an authentic Mexican restaurant; we’re focusing less on regionality and authenticity, and more on innovation,” says Executive Chef Chris Gallo. “Creating the menu has been a fun process. We’re combining flavors that are easily translatable and already well loved by local palates (because of San Diego’s close proximity to Mexico)—yet we’re exploring them in different forms with outside influences that pair well.”
Come for the hand-pressed tortillas and unique Mexican menu staples, but stay for the mezcal and margaritas. The menus meld traditional dishes such as Posole and Campechana with unique interpretations like the mouthwatering Watermelon & Citrus Shrimp Ceviche. An extensive drink list of 90+ tequilas and mezcals kindly grace the spacious bar.
